Who are we? 

Welcome to Sandpiper Nursery and School.

We provide childcare for SGU faculty, staff, students, Grenadians, and visiting families. 

 

Ms. Susanne Curry is the Director of Sandpiper Nursery and School and has over the past 15 years established educational programs and external educational support programs including curriculum development to serve the Grenadian community. Ms. Curry is a qualified Montessori teacher (ages 0-12 years) who also holds a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts with a concentration in Education. She is currently working towards her Master of Education degree at St. George’s University. Our school motto is “learning for all” which means that we conduct regular parent workshops, teacher learning communities and guide children as learners for life. Ms. Curry has a firm belief in the Montessori philosophy and approach and believes that making strong connections with each child and family paves the road to confidence and learning in the most holistic sense.

 

Instead of “what are the children going to do today?” we focus on “what are the children going to learn today?”

Ms. Susanne not only excels at teaching young ones but also enjoys leading a team of local and foreign educators. At Sandpiper School, Ms. Susanne has implemented a professional learning community (PLC). The PLC meets 6 criteria that focuses on a shared mission to create a safe and ethical learning community for all stakeholders ( parents, teachers and students).  The PLC encourages collaboration and trusts teachers as leaders with making decisions for the school as a whole. The teaching team meets weekly and monthly to collaborate and provide suggestions, support, and to discuss each child as an individual. Professional learning communities have been shown to empower teachers in both professional and personal development.
